Author Guidelines

Medicine 2.0 presenters are invited to submit a full paper of thei presentation to one of the following journals (all will be PMC/PubMed indexed):

  1. High quality full papers should be submitted to the Pubmed/Medline-indexed Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR) (the leading ehealth/mhealth journal with an 2013 Impact Factor 4.7). Medicine 2.0 presenters (full registration only, NOT discounted or student registrations) are eligible for a 20% Article Processing Fee discount, worth $380, if they submit their paper between 1 month before the conference and 2 months after the first day of the conference, and if the title/abstract of their paper matches their med2 presentation (provide link to the abstract in your cover letter). To be eligible for this discount, authors MUST select the Medicine 2.0'14 "section" in the drop down list at the JMIR submission page (login with your JMIR account password - or create a new account with an "author" role). Sorry, no discounts/refunds for already submitted/published papers, or if submitted after the deadline. Medicine 2.0 papers will undergo peer-review. If declined for JMIR the papers and the peer-review reports will automatically be transferred to the Medicine 2.0 journal or considered for other sister journals (see below). JMIR charges a $90 submission fee and a $1520 (discounted) Article Processing Fee (APF) in case of acceptance for non-member institutions.
Submit here to JMIR (use your JMIR account to login)

  2. Medicine 2.0 presenters can submit a short (10 pages) full paper and have their work published in the new Pubmed-indexed Medicine 2.0 journal publication, if they wish. There is no submission fee, but submission is only open to authors and works presented at the Medicine 2.0 congress (and collaborating events/projects). There will be "light" peer-review. In case of acceptance, authors can opt to pay a copyediting fee of $450 (up to 20 manuscript pages). Full papers can be submitted at any time, but preferably no later than 6 months after the conference.
Submit here to the Medicine 2.0 journal (use your JMIR account to login)

  3. For ongoing or methodological work, a research protocol, or preliminary (formative) work (like website design, usability testing, needs assessment etc. with future or ongoing evaluation) we recommend to submit a paper to the new journal JMIR Research Protocols. Authors publishing their protocols, grant proposals, formative evaluation work in JMIR Res Protoc will receive a 20% discount on the Article Processing Fee if they subsequently publish their final results in JMIR. JMIR Res Protoc adheres to the same quality standards as JMIR and will also be marked up for deposit in PubMed Central and Pubmed indexation. Submission fee $90; APF $1520 for externally reviewed papers (regular price $1900), or APF $760 (regular $950) for protocols/grant proposals which are already reviewed e.g. by a granting agency (peer-review reports must be uploaded at the time of submission)

Please do not submit the same paper to all journals (we can transfer the paper and the peer-revew reports between journals). All papers are open access and the author retains copyright.

If you wish to prepare a full paper, please download the template at http://tinyurl.com/jmirtempl and consult the instructions for authors for these journals.

How to prepare your submission for the Medicine 2.0 journal

We currently only accept submissions from presenters at Medicine 2.0 conferences and workshops.

Submissions must adhere to the JMIR Instructions for Authors.. Please pay particular attention to the pre-submission checklist to avoid common formatting issues. We strongly recommend to download the template at
http://tinyurl.com/jmirtempl and using it when writing a paper from the scratch.

Special care should be taken to prepare your bibliography. In -text citations look like this [1] - do not use superscript or footnotes. Add a “References” section at the end of the manuscript, enumerating all references (1.-n.). For journal references, include the PubMed Identifier (PMID:123456), for book references the ISBN (ISBN: 123453x), for WebCite references the WebCite URL (obtained at webcitation.org) in your bibliography (if you do, your references can be automatically formatted during typesetting, so the actual format is less important).

In addition, there are a few special limitations, which are not applicable for JMIR submissions:

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  2. Papers may not exceed 4500 words (without abstract, references, and tables)
  3. Papers should not have more than 30 references (except systematic reviews), max 1 table, max 1 figure, and max 1 Multimedia Appendix.
